COUNSELING AND CAREER CENTER

The open and contrasting entrance to the building provides a dramatic focus for welcoming visitors. The abundant use of glass opens the interior to natural light while the exterior walkway style is handsomely reflected in the interior design.

The only distracting element is the exterior landscaping.

Inside, an impressive lobby creates a bridge between students on their way to classes and students planning their departure from the academic world - from the Pardall corridor to the counseling rooms off the rear patio.

While all the wall and flooring surfaces are hard, the use of natural wood and planters softens the exit from UCSB and one's entrance to the "real world."

Well designed and well maintained, the lobby should be part of any campus tour.

Straight lines have never looked so good. OK, I would have preferred a wood-beam ceiling, but who is to complain?

Container plants help to contain the anxiety of entering the workforce. Now if only there were jobs out there for all of those sociology, racism, sexism, and Marxism majors.

(Comments do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Physical Facilities or any of its staff members. They may, however, reflect reality.)

Calm before the storm: Students are put at ease on their way to being interviewed in one of many counseling rooms.

Kudos to the grounds-keepers.
